Our Travel Diary of Amelia Island
Amelia Island Itinerary
We are so blessed to not only have some of the most beautiful beaches in our backyard but we are so lucky to be within driving distance to some of Florida’s most amazing beaches. We were able to take the kids on a quick weekend trip to Amelia Island and it did not to disappoint. We pretty much ate our way through out trip, but I am not complaining. We enjoyed every bite, loved taking in the scenery of the beaches, and strolling down the sidewalks of historic downtown Amelia Island.
Dinner at Amelia Tavern
Do I really need to tell you how delicious the food is at Amelia Tavern when you see this amazing pretzel? We had the perfect atmosphere and weather to sit on the patio and enjoy all the yummies this restaurant had to offer. Audrey ranked their chicken fingers at the top of her list. And I am still drooling over the pretzel and truffle fries. We all came out with our bellies full and wanting to return!
Breakfast at Amelia Coffee Island
We found the cutest breakfast spot in downtown Amelia Island. They made me one of the most delicious omelettes and Audrey savored every bite of her cinnamon roll. And I am always a sucker for a great iced coffee. Amelia Coffee Island offers all of our breakfast favorites, from tasty pastries to hot pancakes and eggs. It was honestly one of my favorites of the trip.
Bicycle Rentals at the Omni Amelia Island
We were able to rent bicycles to explore the beautiful property of the Omni Amelia Island. There are approximately seven miles of bicycle trails that take you to Aury Island, Drummond Point Park, and Walker’s Landing.
The Omni Amelia island sets on 1,350 acres at the tip of a barrier island off the Florida coast. The Omni is a beautiful resort offers luxurious oceanfront accommodations with unparalleled views of the Atlantic Ocean, world-class resort pools, championship golf, and a full-service spa. You can stroll on the beach, spend the day kayaking through Amelia Island’s preserved marshlands or tee off on one of our award-winning golf courses.
We could have spent countless hours exploring the property. From biking and walking trails there was so much beauty to see and explore.
Lunch at Salt Life Food Shack
The kids have always loved the brand Salt Life, so they were thrilled when we found out they had a restaurant we could visit. The Salt Life Food Shack is set just steps from the ocean. We were able to dine on their top deck with views for miles. We all had the difficult choice of what to eat. They offer a huge variety of seafood fare, along with all of the Americana food the kiddos devour. My favorite part about visiting was the incredible atmosphere and views. We are a true definition of a beach loving family and The Salt Life Food Shack was the perfect location for us to dine.
Mini Golf Adventure at Gregor MacGregor Mini Links & Drinks
We are all just a little competitive in our family. I have never been the best at putt-putt, but always love a good game of it. Put a drink in my hand and I think I am pro golfer on the greens. Gregor MacGregor Mini Links & Drinks is one of the most unique putt-putt courses we have visited. As stated on their website, Gregor MacGregor’s Mini Links & Drinks combines some of Florida’s favorite pastimes: a round of golf, a tasty drink, and beautiful scenery in the heart of historic Fernandina Beach.
The drinks were tasty and refreshing and I was winning by a long shot, til I added our scores and totally blew my huge lead! I still came out tying Audrey and we all had great laughs and memories.
Dinner at The Boat House
We finished our day with dinner at The Boat House. We could not have asked for better service. The relaxed atmosphere offered televisions for us to watch college football and we were able to listen to our favorite tunes with the live music on the patio. The Boat House offers a selection of seafood and steaks. We started with the tuna tartare and quickly cleaned the plate. I loved my crab cakes and Audrey her fried shrimp.
Another delicious meal, but we all left loving the desserts the most. We each got our own, because this Cox clan does not share well when it comes to sweets. Audrey’s browning sundae was served in a cast iron skillet. I had carrot cake churros with a side of cream cheese frosting and dole whip. Kris had banana toffee pudding.
Brunch at Pogo’s Kitchen
Before heading home, our last stop was Pogo’s Kitchen. It was a quaint restaurant with a breakfast menu that you want to ask for one of everything. Before you even walk through the entrance, they greet you at the door with complimentary champagne.
Breakfast is our favorite meal of the day. We started with the cinnamon rolls in an iron skillet. We were all fighting over the last one. And we were all dying over the fresh fruit served with each meal. Brydon had the fluffiest stack of pancakes and my omelette did not last long!
And as you leave, they send you on your way with a stack of homemade chocolate chip cookies. It was the perfect ending to a perfect family weekend trip!
