Sometimes days just don’t go according to plan. Yesterday was one of those days. We were supposed to go to my niece’s volleyball game after school (an hour away), it has been raining buckets the last 3 days, and we leave for a long weekend family trip to Chicago on Friday (Yay!!). With all of that comes a lot of preparation, along with the million regular duties during the week. So when I get a call from the school nurse that B doesn’t feel well, my stomach sinks to my toes and I go into full on what-if mode!! And of course, you think the worst! We are ALL going to get sick. The trip will be canceled. I will get NOTHING done this week. But as I hear B busily packing upstairs, because I made him stay home today, I am reminded of all the little things that I am able to soak in. Kris and I had one on one with A at dinner. Which led to a hilarious conversation with her (Not blog appropriate, but if you see me ask, I will share). I honestly couldn’t stop laughing at her. B was able to get some much-needed rest. AND I get to spend the day with him. He is actually cleaning out his room and toy closet, unprompted by me. And low and behold I will get me to do list done, at least the important stuff. Perspective. I truly believe these little road blocks are placed in our lives to help us slow down and help us gain perspective on what is really important and to be thankful for the little things.
